Can You Do Any of It Yourself?
Some of it. Kwikset says its SmartKey locks can be rekeyed with your current working key, the tool in the packaging and a new key. It only works with Kwikset products, and you need the current key. If that key is lost, you need a locksmith.
Treat the door from the garage like an exterior door too. It is easy to forget, and if a cleaner or contractor had your garage code, that door is a way in.
Summerlin Questions
- Should I rekey a brand new home?
- Yes, if a builder or contractor may still hold a key. New builds have few copies, but rekeying at move in closes that last gap.
